Why did we create Chickadee?
Anita Merkle and Jan Sawyer are lifelong Kindergarten teachers who got tired of reading programs which bored children with repetitive and uninteresting stories to teach phonics. Chickadee Readers are stories Mom will enjoy as much as the child!
What makes us better?
After 60+ years teaching kindergarteners, we made books that kids actually love—fun stories about mischievous characters like themselves, filled with friendship, family, adventure, and real consequences. Chickadee Readers feed young souls with good stories, not pointless tales. And instead of the backdoor of picture guessing, we teach kids to enter the world of reading through the front door of phonics—building real skills, step by step.
